Paul Scholes’ Hot Dog

NWCFL First Division North

It isn’t often that you get to see an ex-England International stuffing his face with a hot dog. Think Ed Miliband and his bacon sarnie, but on a cold bonfire night in West Oldham and you are somewhere along the line. Why was he here? To what his son Arron plays for the hosts and you can occasionally see him watching him.

The 101 of us who headed to Andrew Street were not treated to the greatest game of the season as the final ball was lacking on the occasions that the defences failed to repel the attacks from both sides. That along with a referee who looked intent on being the centre of attention did not make for a great night at all.

That said, Town scored a goal in each half, Glass finishing a nice move in the first half, substitute Nevitt completing a late breakaway to give the visitors the three points. In-between the two goals Chadderton were awarded two penalties. They missed both. The first hit the bar, the second just went straight over. Only the third time in 659 games I have seen a side awarded two pens and fail to score.

Attendance: 101

Moment of the Match: The second penalty miss just about beats Mr Scholes’ Ed Miliband impersonation.
